Donni’s Door was founded in September, 2000 and has gone from a just a concept to actually making a difference in lives and communities. In August 2002, Donni’s Door became a program of the Motor City Blight Busters, enabling the organization to take form in September 2003. In September 2004, the organization swung to the next level and established a partnership with the Michigan Neighborhood Partnership, a HUD-certified organization. Donni’s Door was incorporated in March 2005 and received its own Non-Profit status in March 2006.
Working in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Detroit through the Hope Program, we built credit scores and decreased debt in order for participants to become Family Partners and qualify for affordable housing. We have also collaborated with HUMAC, Helping Unite Mothers and Children, who helps reduce the cost of foster care to the State of Michigan by assisting with family re-unification, to provide services to families transitioning from homelessness and hopelessness to hopefulness, where there might otherwise be none by providing Life and Court Advocacy Skills. Donni’s Door has run an emergency food program funded by the United Way, as well. Through a combination of all of our work, Donni’s Door has helped over 10,000 individuals and families.
